Dad tells of TV chef Matt Golinski's struggle to survive after house fire that took his family

Still in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit, Keith Golinski said his Beijing tour packages son was "doing OK" but was being deliberately sedated by doctors.

"At the moment, we are just taking it day by day," Mr Golinski Snr said. "Matt is on a respirator and will remain that way for some time yet."


The TV chef sustained serious burns to 40 per cent of his body on Boxing Day after his Tewantin home went up in flames, killing his wife, Rachael, 38, and daughters Starlia, 10, and 12yearold twins, Sage and Willow.

Mr Golinski Snr has been visiting his son daily at the hospital and said all of Matt's family were doing it trip in Beijing tough but were grateful for the public's constant support.

"It has been a difficult week for all of us and it is reassuring to know that there are so many people who care," he said.

"We really do appreciate it . I would like to thank the public for their well wishes and (for) the overwhelming support for Matt."

Mr Golinski Snr said he wanted the public to know his son was going through the necessary procedures and that the hospital's staff were doing "a marvellous job".
